The title of this article is, “Thank you, Shaun White, for not medaling in the Olympics” written by Shannan Younger. The article is about the lessons you can learn from Shaun White, who came in fourth place in the half pipe competition at the Sochi Olympics. The author first begins by saying you can’t always win, and you have to be a good sport when you don’t. Shannan says after Shaun White competed he went up to another competitor and hugged him. He then went on to an interview and said he was happy for the guys who did well, which was showing good sportsmanship. She also mentions that from Shaun you can learn not to give up. In the interview Shaun says it was a bad day and he will continue to keep practicing and come out here next time and get a medal then. I agree with all the information Shannan mentioned that you could have learned from Shaun that day. I agree that it is super important to be a good sport. I play volleyball, and after each game we shake hands under the net saying good game. I think that’s really important because all though no one wants to lose, we still show good sportsmanship and congratulate the other team. Sometimes it is hard to suck it up and tell them “Good job” after a tough loss, but in the end they deserve it. Just like Shaun said, we could always come back next time and get them. When we do win, we would love for them to congratulate us as well. This information will help me in the future to remember you can’t always win or get what you want, and when you don’t you must keep a positive attitude about it. In the future, after a tough loss I will keep my head up and just keep thinking that I will come back and get them next time. This can help me in the workplace to be proud of my employees if they get a better opportunity then I might. I will remember to keep working hard and eventually it will pay off. In that moment though, I must be proud and happy for them. Halfpipe Snowboarding Competition - matching yourself up against other snowboarders to see who has the best combination of amplitude, style and technical tricks. Self centered-limited to or caring only about yourself and your own needs I agree with John Tapene's words, many teenagers now a days are lazy and some are too dependable on others. I definitely agree that if teenagers want something it is up to themselves to go and get it. As a whole I do not believe teenagers are leaving a positive stamp on the world. Teenagers are too caught up with technology and are not doing much to help others. I am so excited for summer! I love swimming, being tan, sleeping in, no school or homework; I just can not wait. As soon as my pool is set up I am in it almost everyday! I love the weather and being able to wear shorts and flip flops. This summer I am planning to go to Cedar Point. My sister and I are each bringing a friend. It is going to be so fun! I went to Cedar Point last year and I had a blast! About a month and a half of school and it is summer vacation! A cool activity I have done before once was during volleyball. We were practicing on serving to specific areas. My coach had us do a fun drill where we divided into teams. Then one person from each team would go to a position on the opposite court...the players on your team would then serve the ball to you. Once the server hit the designated spot, she would then go to the next position on the court. The first team to get through all six positions won! It was a really fun drill and made serving way better. The title of this article is, “Teacher Defends Insulting Blog Posts About Her Students: ‘I Hear the Trash Company is Hiring.’ The authors of this article are Andrea Canning and Olivia Katrandijan. This article is about a teacher who created a blog and on it, talked badly about her students. Her boss eventually found the blog after a year and she was fired. The teacher believes she did not do anything wrong. She says she was simply writing what she thought. I agree that what the teacher did was wrong. Although she does have the freedom of speech, it does not give her the right to talk badly about others. I have a Twitter account and all of the time I see people I follow tweeting negatively about others. I do not understand why they feel the need to go out of their way to say something that could be very hurtful to someone else. More people should follow the rule, “If you don’t have anything nice to say…don’t say it." In the future, I will pay even extra attention to what I am putting on the internet to make sure I am not hurting anyone else' feelings. I will make sure I am not posting anything that could jeopardize me now or in the future. Reading that article reminded me that not just my followers or friends look at what I post, but teachers, parents, coaches and many other people look at what I post as well. This article can help to prepare me for the work place so when I do have a job, it will help me to know that there are boundaries to what I share on social networks. If I cross one of those boundaries it could cost me my job. Censored: examine (a book, movie, etc.) officially and suppress unacceptable parts of it. Caricature: a picture, description, or imitation of a person or thing in which certain striking characteristics are exaggerated in order to create a comic or grotesque effect. Two years ago in 7th grade we had a mandatory science fair we had to participate in. We had a few months to complete this project and it was a really big deal. We had to come up with an idea to test and record all of our information, when we were done we put it all on a big board. My project was how much longer does bread with preservatives last than bread without preservatives. I remember walking into the gym the day of our science fair to go stand by my board and someone told me, "Congrats." I asked, "For what?" She replied, "You got second place." I was so surprised! I did not really expect to place; especially since it was out of five science classes. I was really happy and proud of myself that I got 2nd! I have a big online presence, I have a Facebook, Twitter and an Instagram. When I Google my name, links to my accounts pop up. If you click on images you will see pictures of me I may have posted on any of those websites. If others did not know me and saw my accounts they would have a positive impression of me. I make sure to only put things on the internet that I know will not have any negative effect on my life. I only put positive words and pictures. If I could select one job to work at during my High School years I would chose to work at Dairy Queen or a small ice-cream place. Working at an ice-cream place seems like a decent first job. Plus, I love ice-cream. So working there would be something I take into consideration when I am looking for a job. I would not want an elephant's memory. Although most people would love to have a great memory, I would not want to remember every single thing that happened in my life. There may have been a bad moment that you would like to forget about. Although, if you had an elephant's memory...you would never ever forget. A memory of mine that I would like to remember forever was when I went camping over the summer with my grandparents, sister and cousins. It was super fun and I hope to always remember all the memories I made that weekend. |
